Where Financial Planning Gets a Little More Human.
Lanning Financial specializes in helping professionals in the San Francisco Bay area and the Greater Salt Lake City area plan for Phase 3 (retirement), their kids’ college educations, their next start-up business idea, taking care of their relatives, or taking that long-awaited sabbatical.

Your Personal CFO, Jessica
Meet Your Financial Thinking Partner
Yes, I’ve got the JD and CFP® credentials behind my name, but that’s not why people hire me.
My job is to provide clear, practical financial advice and leadership for you and your family, with a down-to-earth, tell-it-like-it-is approach. You won’t get jargon-heavy lectures or complicated theories from me. Instead, you can expect real conversations, thoughtful advice, and probably a laugh or two along the way. My goal is always to make your life easier.
I believe in starting wherever you are in life right now, doing the absolute best with what you’ve got, and making mid-flight corrections often enough to stay on course. Because ultimately, your money should help you live a life that brings joy and meaning to you.

From Attorney to Your Financial Guide
I didn’t start my career planning to become a financial advisor. Initially, I practiced law, helping clients untangle complicated legal problems. It didn’t take long to see that many of their struggles weren’t legal, but financial.
That insight led me first to mortgage consulting, where I helped people navigate big decisions about buying homes and managing debt. But mortgages were just one piece of the puzzle. People needed to understand their whole financial picture without feeling overwhelmed.
That’s why I earned my Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) credential and shifted my focus fully to financial planning. For the past decade-plus, I’ve dedicated myself to helping clients understand their money in a broader context, connecting the dots between their finances and the lives they truly want.
After 25 years, I’ve learned that real financial success happens when you have clarity, simplicity, and genuine confidence about your financial decisions. It’s all about feeling informed, in control, and ready for whatever comes next.
Start with the Right Questions

This short guide includes 10 questions I ask in real planning conversations. They help you reflect on what’s working, what’s changed, and what deserves your attention next.
You don’t need spreadsheets or formulas. Just a few honest answers and a quiet moment to think.
